The Search For A New Film Camera!
*Lovin’ You by Minnie Riperton plays in the background as I type this*
I am in yet another search for a 35mm film camera. I have two that my friend, Johnny who is also an amazing artist all around in every medium, gave me. The Nikon N65 (Tamron AF 28-80mm lens) worked for like a day but since it’s just overall an old camera, it gave me whatever life it had left in it. The Pentax ZX-30 (Pentax 28-80 lens) gave me some fun moments for a few months but recently, it started acting weird. I’m not sure what exactly is wrong with it but basically, when I turn it on, it sounds like the camera is rolling the film! Even if I turn the camera off, it is still making the noise so the only way it doesn’t do that is if I take the batteries out, thus making it unable to work with sadly. I have a roll of film in there and I’m not sure how to get it out safely!
I am just really sad about the Pentax not working because I had just bought new film before the stay at home order began! I mean it’s fine I have my DSLR and Polaroid but still, I just long for a film camera to have to use for years to come. Right now I’m looking at these cameras: Canon EOS Rebel GII, Pentax K1000, or Olympus Ace-E. But ugh, camera shopping is so difficult because you want to buy all the cameras! They each have their own pros and cons and I’m already an indecisive person so there’s just so much to consider when buying a new camera. I am just going to continue doing my research and trust that the universe will provide me with the best film camera for me! Trying to not rush the process but I’m also a tad impatient because I just missing using my film cameras. Something about the way the pictures come out make them that much more personal.
I just look forward to this mess in the world being over with so I can go back to the camera stores and get some help on this Pentax lol. Dreaming of you Photolab and Looking Glass in Berkeley! If anyone is curious about where to go for getting film developed, I’ve got mine done at Photolab and I got my photos back within a few days. Amazing people to work with. I’ve only gone to Looking Glass to get some help with my cameras and wow their customer service is great! I forget the name of the lady that helped me but her energy was amazing to be around and she was so helpful and explained things to me where I could easily understand. 11/10 recommend both places!
Now I move forward in my journey of finding the perfect film camera!
